SUNRISE OVER GALILEE
Local artist Robert Tuvey has made a wonderful gift to our church
of a 4 x 6 foot acrylic painting of Jesus calling James & John to
leave their father's fishing business and become instead "fishers of
men". In the painting, I can see concern on the faces of the sons of Zebedee as they try to think through the consequences of this choice
for their lives, and the impact on their families. Peter seems to be
hoping that the brothers make the right decision--Jesus' concern for
others is already beginning to rub off on him. The Lord waits
patiently--he knows that the results of their choice will continue
to change the world 20 centuries hence, and echo through eternity. Yet, despite the seriousness and the urgency of the moment, he waits
with open hand to receive them if they will. The choice belongs to
them. And all around the players in this scene, because of the presence
of Jesus, the light keeps growing.
"Wake up, O sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you."
Ephesians 5:14b NIV
We invite our community to come see this marvelous work of art, and
our newly remodeled chapel.
